THE SALE of car park land in Maclean for the proposed IGA supermarket continues to be a bone of contention, with councillors debating where the proceeds should go and the public clinging to precious metres of green space.

At Tuesday night's Clarence Valley Council ordinary meeting the Maclean Riverside Precinct Plan was approved by councillors.

It includes the much-sought-after relocation of the Fisheries building as a priority to reopen river views to the town.

Cr Jim Simmons argued for the walkway to be put to the top of the priority list from at least McNaughton Place.

aI know there won't be much change from the car park sale, but it's one of the reasons the community supported that sale,a Cr Simmons said and the point was included in the resolution.

Council officers stressed the Maclean Riverside Precinct Plan was a concept plan and was avery flexiblea, especially with regard to encouraging development in the area. One development that's causing major concern in the Scottish town is that of the proposed IGA and resulting land sale. …
