BIG Brother is watching may well be the catch cry for those working at Fraser Coast's soon to be built St Stephen's Private Hospital.

Australia's first digital hospital will take health care into the future mirroring the most modern hospital systems in the world.

One of the innovations will see staff wearing identification tags that can be monitored by GPS tracking. No one will be able to venture into prohibited areas unless they have clearance and a reason to be there.

Even such things as medical equipment will be tagged, so staff can locate whatever they want at any time, by simply punching details of what they are looking for into any one of the 350-plus computers online at the private hospital.

Executives of St Stephen's Hospital and UnitingCare gave a brief outline of the innovations of the new project at an official launch of the hospital yesterday in Hervey Bay.

A $47million federal government grant under its Health and Hospital Funding Initiative, proved the catalyst for UnitingCare Health moving forward on a project that had been in the pipeline for years. …
