IN A first for the ARIA Charts, this week sees the debut of the mid-year album and singles charts, demonstrating exactly how our popular artists are travelling this year to date.

On the ARIA Top 100 Albums Year To Date, up to and including the charts of June 25, Adele's record-breaking 13-time platinum release 21 takes top honours, holding off a strong challenge from pop sensations One Direction, who swept all before them on their April promotional tour.

Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen is the top-ranked artist on the ARIA Top 100 Singles Year To Date with her infectious tune Call Me Maybe, which exceeds six times platinum status in just a few months of release.

Australian artists have acquitted themselves well, with 18 Australian albums and 20 singles in the top 100. Comparatively, at year's end 2011, there were 22 Australian albums in the top 100 and nine singles.

Leading the local charge on the ARIA Top 100 Albums Year To Date with a top-three result is hip hop outfit Hilltop Hoods, their new release Drinking From The Sun landing number 3 position. They are followed by another hip hop act, Melbourne's 360, with his highly acclaimed album Falling & Flying at number 7.

Joining them in the top 20 is man-of-the-moment Keith Urban, his best of package The Story So Far coming in at 15.

Holding out global success story is Gotye with his Making Mirrors at 16. Matt Corby delivers the top-ranked Australian single Into The FlameEP featuring the haunting Brother coming in at 6 and enjoying sales of more than four times platinum. Hot on his heels is 360 featuring Gossling and Boys Like You at 7, and at 14 is Timomatic with Set It Off.

A number of artists enjoy multiple titles on the ARIA Top 100 Albums, led by Florence + The Machine and Whitney Houston each with three albums. The former's album Ceremonial is at 10, with Between Two Lungs at 45 and MTV Presents Unplugged at 70. …
