BOB Diamond's interrogators on the Treasury Select Committee include some City-friendly faces. Tory MP Andrea Leadsom was a financial institutions director of Barclays Bank between 1993 and 1997, which means she could just have overlapped with Diamond, who had a 16-year career there. Other MPs on the committee with City links include deputy chairman Michael Fallon, a former non-executive director of interdealer broker Tullett Prebon, and Mark Garnier, a former executive at Daiwa, Edmond de Rothschild Securities and Bear Stearns.

?IT'S almost possible to feel sorry for Diamond, who must have dictated yesterday's 7.30am resignation statement only minutes before it hit the stock-market wire. "I leave behind an extraordinarily talented management team that I know is well-placed to help the business emerge from this difficult period as one of the leaders in the global banking industry," he declared.
