Northern Rivers Electricity bills higher due to the higher cost in delivering electricity and also greater usage due to the region's cooling requirements.

SHOPPING around is the key to beating the rising cost of electricity, according to Lismore father-of-two Jeremy Peachey.

Since switching electricity providers earlier in the year, Mr Peachey said they had more than halved the family's electricity bill. However, he conceded that electricity prices were still hurting.

aWe go without putting the heater on most nights to reduce costs,a Mr Peachey said.

A recent survey by The Big Electricity Switch found that residents in the Northern Rivers were paying up to twice the national and state averages for electricity on average. …
