Waterfowl Could Take Exhibits on Best

WATERFOWL exhibited at Allora on Sunday were on a par with those exhibited at the Brisbane Exhibition and Sydney Royal Show, judge Graham Hopf said.

Mr Hopf, an experienced judge from Murwillumbah, heaped accolades on the standard of exhibits at the Golden West Waterfowl Club Annual Show held in the Ernie Young Pavilion at Allora Showgrounds.

He described C[pounds sterling]the exceptional quality of exhibits over the many breeds on showC[yen] and said waterfowl that filled the pavilion were arguably the best gathering he had seen in the past 30 years.

He handed out plenty of encouragement to exhibitors, who came from throughout the Darling Downs and south-east Queensland, insisting the water fowl he judged in the event were on a par with exhibits of the Sydney Royal Show and the Brisbane Exhibition.

Host club president Adam Jannusch considered the annual event C[pounds sterling]a major success for the clubC[yen].

The Queensland-based Golden West Water Fowl Club was founded by Ken Wust, who served as the organisation's initial president until he passed away in 2007.

The club has existed for the past 12 years, with Kingsthorpe breeder Adam Jannusch the current president.

The Ken Wust Memorial Champion Trophy is awarded annually, recognising the founding father's immense contribution.

This year the trophy, presented by guest John Wust and Golden West Water Fowl Club secretary/treasurer Ken Yonge, was the prize for the Champion Light Breed section, won by Karana Downs exhibitor Jimmy Innes with his eight-month-old white Indian Runner.

Mt Marshall water fowl breeder Rebecca Galloway collected the award for reserve champion Bantam Waterfowl with her White Mallard Drake.

Rebecca also tasted success earlier this year when her six-month-old natural mallard duck took out Grand Champion Waterfowl of Show at the 2012 Southern Downs Poultry Club Young Bird Show.

Rebecca also pocketed Champion Waterfowl of Show ribbons at the Warwick, Allora and Stanthorpe shows earlier this year. …
