PAUL COLLINGWOOD is having a frustrating start to life as Durham's new captain.

The Queen is in Worcester tomorrow, and although Her Majesty has no plans to watch any County Championship cricket, if she bumped into Collingwood and asked, "And what do you do?" the answer in this game is not very much.

Instead of making his debut as skipper, the 36-year-old from Shotley Bridge has been forced to watch the relegation battle from the pavilion after his fractured hand swelled up at the weekend.

Coach Geoff Cook admitted it was a blow - and is not sure how long the time will be without their new leader.

"It's a setback for his quality, his character and because he's taken over the captaincy," he said.

"It's a bit of a fragmented start, but we're lucky we have Dale Benkenstein (to fill in). Five days ago we thought he would play here.

"Whether he'll be able to play next week (at Sussex) - it's day to day."

Durham are bottom of Division One. …
