Officials Thrash out North East's Winter Programme

THE Olympic Games track and field programme is still 22 days away but already officials have been sitting down organising the region's winter programme.

Unfortunately, after hosting a fixture for over 40 years, Sunderland Harriers have decided to relinquish their date due to the Farringdon course being two narrow.

Once again Start Fitness will be supporting the North East Harrier League with awards for the Grand Prix at the end of the season.

South Shields Harriers and Sunderland Strollers will once again host the Sherman Cup/Johnstone Shield fixture at Temple Park and it's their promotion which opens the campaign on Saturday, September 29 Blyth Running Club's Cramlington Nature Reserve fixture is next up on October 27 followed by Blaydon's promotion at Shibdon Pond on November 17.

Jarrow and Hebburn's meeting at Bedewell Park on December 15 is the half-way point of the season with the remaining fixtures taking place in 2013.

Saltwell Harriers' host the first fixture of the new year on February 9 at Wrekenton and this is followed by Alnwick Harriers' promotion at Alnwick Pastures on March 2. …
