Two Charged after Post Offices Raided; Four Premises Were Targeted

TWO men have been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery after four post offices were targeted in Northumberland and Tyneside.

Police are linking a series of robberies and attempted robberies at stores in Greenside, Wylam, Dudley and Benton.

Marc Amers, 38, of North Grove, Ryton, and Jason Dow, 44, of Chesters Gardens, Crawcrook, have been charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and will appear at Newcastle Crown Court on Monday.

At Greenside Post Office, three men wearing balaclavas ambushed Ian McIntosh just moments after he opened his shop on December 9 last year.

The postmaster watched on helplessly as the trio emptied the safe after pouncing on him and knocking him to the ground.

On February 10 sub-postmaster Fred Voase and his wife Rosa were beaten by two masked robbers with crowbars who forced their way in via a rear door at premises on Laburnum Terrace, in Wylam, Northumberland.

They fled with a large amount of money, stealing the couple's Ford Mondeo before abandoning the car in nearby Woodcroft Road. …
