Englart Behind Push for Quarry Gardens

TOOWOOMBA Regional councillor Sue Englart has thrown her support behind pushing one of the city's great forgotten plans back on to the council agenda.

The Prince Henry Heights quarry gardens project was extensively planned while former Mayor Di Thorley had the city's top job in 2003. Since then the project has almost faded from the public's mind after being put on ice due to drought and finance issues.

But Cr Englart, alongside other Toowoomba residents, is looking to push the project back into the spotlight a a move she said would not be easy.

aIf you want to eat an elephant you have to start with a small bite,a Cr Englart said.

aThe first step is that the site has to be remediated. A large amount of green waste collected and mulched over the past eight years has been placed around the site so trees can grow and a climate can be established.a

Toowoomba resident and passionate gardener Colin Fitzgerald is one of the residents pushing for the resumption of the quarry gardens project. …
