ALL ARE invited to join Liz Cunningham, Independent Member for Gladstone at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum from 6pm Monday, July 23, for the official launch of The Picture Book Art of Legge & Spudvilas.

Part of the 2012 Curtis Coast Literary Carnivale celebrations, the exhibition features a selection of original illustrations by author/illustrators David Legge and Anne Spudvilas, presenting a rare chance for locals and visitors of all ages to explore the artists' preliminary sketches, experiencing their transformation to printed page.

David Legge has been a professional illustrator since 1986, his well-known book Bamboozled (the first that he wrote and illustrated) won the Honour Book in the 1995 Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Book of the Year Award and collected six children's choice awards in Australia and the US.

Anne Spudvilas is a multi-award-winning illustrator of children's books and an established portrait painter who also works as a courtroom artist for the Melbourne media. Her first picture book, The Race, was awarded the Crichton Award for Illustration and the CBCA Honour Book.

Anne's designs were also used by Australia Post for the 2006 Australian Christmas stamps.

Preceding the launch, the gallery/museum is delighted to host Write On! this Sunday, July 22, with the exhibiting artists as well as award-winning author/illustrators Frances Watts and Jackie French providing fantastic workshop opportunities for adults and young adults eager to try their hand at the exciting author/illustrator experience.

There are still a few spaces available in the workshops and the topics include Illustrating a Story, Writing Picture Books, as well as Writing Fiction for Young Adults and Children, the artists will stay on after the workshops to present a dynamic Panel Discussion on Writing and Publishing, chaired by Carnivale President Dr Robyn Sheahan-Bright.

Bookings are essential as places are limited, further information is available online at gladstonerc.qld .gov.au/carnivale or contact Gladstone Regional Council's Library Services Manager Peter Cramb by phoning 49766444 or emailing peterc@gladstonerc. …
