HIS mum loves it and pro surfer Kelly Slater has tweeted he hates it. But regardless, Johnny Ruffo couldn't be happier with the reaction his debut single, On Top, is receiving.

He makes no apologies for the suggestive lyrics, saying he likes to ruffle feathers and have a bit of fun.

With a chorus line of aI'll be on top of the world when I'm on top of you, girla, he said the lyrics were meant to be cheeky, not derogatory.

aIf it's causing controversy, then it's doing its job,a Ruffo said.

Really, there could not be a more apt title for his debut single.

The 24-year-old former concreter from Western Australia has had a big 12 months after making the X-Factor final three, being a finalist in Cleo Bachelor of the Year and blitzing the competition last month on Dancing With The Stars to take home the coveted trophy.
