BURNING THREAD showed signs of a renaissance on his seasonal return and he can build on that effort with victory in the SIS Sprint at Ascot.

Tim Etherington's charge looked a decent prospect in 2010, when he won a Listed race at Sandown, and he was also victorious at Musselburgh at the beginning of last year.

However, after that initial success, it became something of a nightmare campaign for the five-yearold, who finished last on four of his subsequent five starts.

Burning Thread's closing effort at Doncaster last September was hardly much better, but he showed signs of sparking back into life on his first outing this term at Musselburgh last month.

Returning from over 260 days off, Burning Thread finished a close-up third behind Bajan Tryst after just starting to flag in the closing stages.

Etherington's charge has been put up 1lb for that effort but is still 2lb below his last winning mark and 10lb below his highest ever rating. …
