Man, 24, Bailed after Smash; Car Crashed into Family Home

AMAN has been arrested after a car crashed into a house where a couple and newborn baby were sleeping.

The BMW was left embedded in the family home in Spring Ville, East Sleekburn, Northumberland, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The two occupants of the vehicle fled the scene.

Now a 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and released on police bail. Inquiries are ongoing.

Susan and Jason Hughes, and their 12-week-old son Daniel, were in bed when the car ploughed into their house. The grey car caused extensive damage to the property, crashing through its stone garden wall, causing a massive dent in a brick side wall and shattering the living room window.

No one was injured, although Mrs Hughes and her baby are said to have had a lucky escape as the living room is where she usually feeds Daniel if he wakes during the night.

Mrs Hughes, a community nurse in Newcastle, was too upset to speak after the incident. …
