THE youngsters led the way at Fontburn with 11-year-old Taylor Glover from Blyth, fishing with dad Simon, landing a 5lb 8oz rainbow. The pair also recorded the heaviest limit catch of the week, weighing in at 22lb 4oz.

Younger brother Logan, fishing with grandad Dennis, had a cracking 3lb blue in their 15lb 4oz eight-fish bag from the north shore.

Enjoying a family day's fishing with his cousin Kerena Cooke, eight-year-old Thomas Ferrow from Blyth landed a 6lb 4oz rainbow with Kerena bringing a well-conditioned 1lb 10oz blue to the net.

Fly angler Jeff Hauchen had the week's heaviest fish at 6lb 12oz; M Tiffin landed an eight-fish limit, including four of more than 3lb, for 21lb 8oz from the south shore bay; and Davey Vallance nearly lost his rod when he had a solid take from a 4lb 2oz fish.

Top of the water sport has been excellent at Kielder Water this week, with anglers recording good catches from boat and bank on fly.

Peter Rennie, fishing Belling Inlet and Plashetts Bay, landed seven for 13lb, 8oz including two at 3lb each and returned a further six.

Trout have also been keen to feed on Mayflies which have been hatching in small numbers near Gowanburn and the Belling.

With water temperatures continuing to rise at Derwent Reservoir, fishing has become slightly more challenging and David Middlemast, who has fished the reservoir for many years, used all of his experience to take the best fish of the week at 7lb.

A group of 13 children from Tanfield School took 17 fish to 4lb on bait.

Grassholme continues to provide top class sport with all methods producing great catches. Two tagged rainbows have been landed this week, Joseph Jenkins from Sunderland landed the first from the boat ramp and Jeff Walsh from Stockton also hit the pounds 200 jackpot when he landed one from the dam wall. …
