ATHOL Matcham's passion for Roy Orbison's music and his own talent were first proven when he won an amateur talent quest singing an Orbison tune.

Matcham went on to become the lead singer in a rock'n'roll band and enjoyed incorporating Orbison hits into sets, but he began performing Orbison's music full-time after the rock'n'roll icon passed away in 1988.

He will bring his powerful Roy Orbison Tribute Show to the Ipswich Civic Centre next Saturday.

Backed by a six-piece band, Matcham will perform all of Orbison's hit songs with a voice and stage presence even dedicated fans could be mistaken for thinking belonged to the Big O himself.

Matcham is renowned for being one of the best Orbison imitators, with a similar vocal range, look and sound.

The Roy Orbison Tribute Show boasts awards including 2003 Tribute Show of the Year, 2004 Entertainer of the Year, 2004 The Tribute Show of the Year and the 2004 Golden Service Award, as awarded by Clubs Queensland Entertainment. …
