BLYTH sprang the surprise of the week in the Premier Division by toppling league leaders Alnmouth and Lesbury. The promoted outfit restricted the previously unbeaten side to just 92 with the bat, with only two Alnmouth players making it into double figures. Skipper Mark Lawrence weighed in with four wickets for 22 and then smashed an unbeaten 62 as Blyth rattled off the required runs for the loss of just three men. Defeat for Alnmouth did not see them overtaken at the top of the standings due to their huge lead. However, Blagdon Park ate 27 points into the deficit courtesy of their 36-run victory over Stocksfield. Winning the toss and opting to bat, Blagdon's top order posted 247-1 at the completion of their 50 overs. Russell Hughes top-scored with 116 not out, while James Saunders was also unbeaten after a patient knock of 84. In reply, Stocksfield managed to avoid being all out against their high-flying opponents, but were still well short of their target as they finished on 217-9. …
