IT'S a fairytale most girls can only dream of - arriving at a ball on the back of horse.

But Louise Cooper's wish came true thanks to one kind-hearted fairy godmother.

The 16-year-old Ormesby School pupil arrived at Saltburn's Rushpool Hall on gentle giant George.

Louise, from Middlesbrough, said: "I wanted to be different from everyone else. It was a spur of the moment kind of thing but it's made it really special."

Louise has faced a tough time recently, after losing her dad Tommy Cooper last year following an accident three years ago.

So teaching assistant Karen Kneeshaw was determined to make the evening extra special for the teenager, by letting her borrow her horse George.

Mum-of-three Karen, who has worked at the school for 17 years, said: "She's had a few bad years and I've got a soft spot for her. She reminds me of my daughter.

"It's sad to see her go but we'll definitely be keeping in touch. Hopefully she'll remember this night forever."

Louise's mum Melanie Cairnes, 37, who has three other children, said: "She wanted her dad at her prom but sadly he's not here so it's a bit emotional.

"I think her dad would be amazed by this. She was the apple of his eye."

Louise, who has only ridden George a couple times, stunned fellow pupils as she rode through the gates.

And she says she's really grateful to Karen for all the support she has given her.

Louise, who wants to go to college in September, said: "She is really friendly and approachable."

Meanwhile, another Ormesby School pupil was treated to a makeover including having her hair, make-up and nails done, and a photo-shoot before her big night.

Jodi-Leigh Brown-Beaumont won the makeover after she was entered into a free prize draw when she bought her dress from Middlesbrough shop Destiny Bridal, Prom and Eveningwear.
