FISHING: The 2012 Mitsubishi Motors Rainbow Beach Fishing Classic came to a vibrant close on Saturday, with prizes walking out the door and titles being claimed.

The eight-day event ended with the announcement of the overall category winners, who each walked away with $400 cash.

Topping the prize pool was Martin Clark, who after winning the event's draw, walked away with the Fishing Classic's major prize.

Clark took home a Haines Signature 485SF fishing boat, which organiser Linda Adam estimates to be worth about $20,000, after winning the event's draw.

Adam said the entries kept rolling in as the event progressed last week and conditions took a positive turn for fishers young and old, and while the entries couldn't quite top that of last year's 700 or so, she was happy with the event's turnout.
