This year's Hexham Abbey Festival, which runs from September 21 to 29, promises to be bigger and better than ever, with 17 events taking place over the nine days.

World-class musicians and artists are set to descend on Hexham.

Hexham Abbey Festival is 60 this year and to mark the occasion Culture Club members have the chance to win one of two pairs of free tickets to the innovative Aquarelle Guitar Quartet concert on Sunday, September 23 at 3pm.

The chamber music quartet (Michael Baker, James Jervis, Vasilis Bessas and Rory Russell) was founded at the Royal Northern College of Music in 1999 but went on to win many awards and was signed to Chandos Records in 2009.

Other festival attractions include twilight concerts, a celebrity organ recital, a performance of Haydn's The Creation and - in a bid to make the festival truly international - the Amsterdam Cello Octet performing a world premiere by Arvo Prt.

You will be able to enjoy music as diverse as classical, jazz, Japanese drums, Italian baroque and plenty more, performed by artists such as Red Priest, Voces8, Thomas Trotter (organ) and the Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers. …
