SHAYNE Neumann has always been fond of speaking in public.

That passion has been highlighted in recent figures from Federal Parliament, obtained by the QT, that reveal the Federal Member for Blair has given more speeches in the Gillard government's recent term in office than any other Labor member of parliament.

Mr Neumann has clocked up 249 speeches to date, which puts him well ahead of Anthony Albanese (215) and Bill Shorten (208).

Parliamentarians such as Steve Gibbons are way back on 17 and there are many under 50.

Of Mr Neumann's speeches 115 have been in relation to bills, 35 about private member's bills, 33 with regard to questions without notice and 21 speeches were made during adjournment debate.

Mr Gibbons has given five speeches on bills and Alan Griffin has none to his name.

Mr Neumann's 21 adjournment speeches relate to a five-minute opportunity at the end of parliament to talk about a local constituency issue.
