AN ASPIRING boatman says he has not been put off using his new boat -despite a disastrous first attempt.

Alan Bunney's first go at using his boat ended in disaster when his van got stuck on the beach at Saltburn.

The 61-year-old had simply tried to take his new small speed boat down to the sea in a trailer and drop it off.

But the wheels of his vehicle got stuck in the sand before the tide quickly swept in.

"I won't be doing that again," said Alan, from Skelton.

"I got the boat into the water and got it launched and within seconds we got stuck.

"I have been down there with the dog and I have seen people drive over with cars so I thought it was OK. But I have just got the boat so maybe I'm a bit inexperienced!" Alan, who owns AB Roofing, and his son spent around two hours trying to get the van free. …
