CAISTRON Lakes continue to provide top-class fishing with good bags and quality fish reported.

D Edward had the best fish of the week at 8lb and brought a further eight to the net - all on nymphs.

Peter and Andy Jones enjoyed a great four-hour session with Peter landing eight and Andy six. Shiremoor angler B Atkinson included a tagged fish in his bag.

The Caistron stretch of the River Coquet is holding good numbers of fish and the fishery is offering a joint ticket - half-day catch and release on the lakes and half day on the river - for pounds 30 and a full day on the river for pounds 35.

Derwent Reservoir is also continuing to provide great sport for both fly and bait anglers this week with 400 rods landing more than 1,400 trout.

Five tagged fish have come to the net this week with each angler claiming a pounds 200 cash prize.

Three were landed last Wednesday with bait anglers Mr Wilson and Mr Smith landing their fish on the south shore, whereas fly angler George Samms caught his near the spillway on the north shore.

The heaviest fish this week at 7lb was caught by Mick Styles from South and David Middlemast took one of the catches of the season on fly with eight for 27lb.

At Fontburn those who moved with the breeze and cast into the wind lanes have done best.

Isobel Adam had the heaviest fish of the week with a 6lb rainbow.

Chris Bramfitt - who was second in the earlier Hury fly only cash competition - went one better at the weekend, taking first place and winning pounds 200 with eight for 14lb 8oz.

David Middlemast returned to Hury with a relative to enjoy another action-packed visit, landing the heaviest fish of the week at 7lb, returning five more. S Middlemast landed 14, returning seven.

Mick Davidson, fishing at Merlin Brea, recorded the heaviest fish of the week at Kielder Water with at 4lb 3oz rainbow. …
