ABOUT 10 years ago the boss and I were dead lucky to jag the last two available tickets to the Royal Shakespeare Company's presentation of The Tempest in Stratford-on-Avon. The production was simply awesome.

I attempted to see Agatha Christie's Mousetrap on two separate occasions on trips to the Old Dart, maybe eight or so years apart. No luck, so when the long-running play came to the Gladstone Entertainment Centre early this year, I jumped at it. Dinner and show, no less.

At dinner, I was seated beside a very old man who opened the conversation by asking me what the best theatre production I had ever seen was. A no-brainer, it was RSC's The Tempest I said.

What followed was the most extraordinary half-hour or so of an incredible array of recited quotations from just about every Shakespearean play I'd ever heard of Co some of the great tragedies, comedies and historical plays along with some of Bill Shakespeare's shockers.

On August 2, that old man was inducted into the Queensland Business Hall of Fame. …
