'Rusty' Gateshead Can Get Even Better

THEY have started the season on fire, but Chris Bush insists Gateshead remain "rusty" and can get even better, writes STEVE BROWN.

The Tynesiders kicked off their Blue Square Bet Premier campaign with a 2-2 draw at title favourites Luton Town, and followed it up with Tuesday's 4-1 home win over second favourites Mansfield Town. Amid an all-action display, Bush claimed the hosts' third goal - which sailed in direct from a deep free-kick, although Liam Hatch later maintained he got a touch before the ball passed Stags goalkeeper Alan Marriott.

And the 20-year-old said: "We've played against good sides and shown what we're capable of, there's nothing to be afraid of in this league. But to be honest, I think we're still a bit rusty. There's a lot more to come from us.

"We played good football in pre-season, and haven't shown as much of that as we could against Luton and Mansfield, but it's a good start.

"Liam was celebrating but I think he was just pointing to me in recognition of what a great pass it was. …
