DOZENS of trees were removed from the side of Friday Hut Rd recently to clear space for an electricity link between Ballina and Byron grids.

Friday Hut Rd between Bangalow Rd and Tintenbar is the route for the new powerline which will connect Ballina and Byron shires.

Residents of the area, who asked to remain anonymous, were happy with the result, saying ait lets more sunlight into the propertiesa.

Heavy machinery was used to remove the trees, mostly camphor laurel and other non indigenous specimens, some more than 100-years-old.

Residents were contacted by the company contracted to remove the trees, and the work was done over the past two weeks.

The trees were chipped on-site and replaced by big camphor-scented piles of mulch, mostly taken by neighbours.

The last part of the wood cutting work was completed last weekend.

Now it is up to Essential Energy to start the connection of the new powerline link. …
