A FAMILY'S world has been torn apart after another life was lost on the region's roads yesterday.

A 21-year-old man died after the non-motorised tricycle he was riding and a 10-tonne truck collided on Ian Reddacliff Dr at The Leap, about 20km north of Mackay.

Local residents were last night shaken by the tragedy.

It is the sixth death to occur in the Mackay region in nine days.

It brings the road toll to 12 crashes, which have claimed the lives of 18 people.

A Mackay police spokesman said the young man had been riding the trike down a steep slope when the collision occurred with the 10-tonne truck, which had been travelling up theroad.

He became trapped under the front driver's side wheel of the truck.

Initial investigations suggested the rider could have lost control, a police spokesman said.

He was wearing protective gear when the crash occurred, the spokesman said. …
