SHE should be celebrating her precious son's 16th birthday surrounded by family and friends.

Instead, heartbroken Debbie Cameron will today lay flowers on her child's grave after his young life was tragically snatched away.

Schoolboy David was just seven years old when he was knocked off his bike and killed by a speeding driver on Newcastle's Stamfordham Road in June 2004.

The cystic fibrosis sufferer didn't stand a chance when a BMW driven by Mark Tye struck him on a pedestrian crossing at 61mph - more than 20mph over the limit. Former Northumbria University student Tye, 21, of Chapel Park, Newcastle, was jailed for five years and three months for the crime after being convicted of causing death by dangerous driving, but this was later reduced to four years on appeal.

But no sentence could ever be long enough for David's mum Debbie, 42, dad Dave, 49, and little sister Kirsty, 11.

Speaking from the family's home on Gishford Way, Blakelaw, childminder Debbie said: "The pain will always be there and David could never be forgotten. …
