WHO knows their athletics? Last Friday, I wrote in a story on the Warwick All Schools Sports that Assumption College sprinter Brodie Sharman ran 10.43 seconds to break the 100m record for 16 years boys set by Kurt Goodwin, of Warwick State High School, at 10.45 in 1998.

Two readers who know their athletics were having a discussion on it on Friday night and decided to settle a score about if it was right and rang me.

The reality is I typed 10 instead of 11.

Both Brodie and Kurt are two of the fastest in these parts in the past two decades but a time of 10.43 or 10.45 means in the 100m final at the Olympics they would only be eight metres behind Usain Bolt.

Brodie shows a lot of promise as a rugby league player and will be one of the quickest second rowers around when he hopefully plays at higher levels. …
