No Reprieve for Pietersen as He Is Dropped from World Twenty20 Squad

KEVIN PIETERSEN'S hopes of playing in this year's World Twenty20 were dashed today after he was omitted from England's final 15-man squad for the tournament.

As expected, Pietersen was left on the sidelines while he awaits further talks with the England and Wales Cricket Board, and Test captain Andrew Strauss, to try to revive an international career that looks in jeopardy. Pietersen was axed after it emerged he had sent text messages to South Africa players during the Second Investec Test at Headingley.

"Kevin Pietersen's future involvement is still being determined and he was therefore not considered for the squad," said national selector Geoff Miller.

Pietersen was player of the tournament as England won the last edition of the World Twenty, in the West Indies in 2010, but he will not be able to help them defend their crown next month.

Coach Andy Flower and Twenty20 captain Stuart Broad will look to players like Eoin Morgan, Alex Hales, Craig Kieswetter and Jonny Bairstow to provide the explosive batting that Pietersen would usually offer. …
