A ROCKHAMPTON surgeon says experienced medical professionals are being under-utilised in the State Government's massive restructure of the health system.

Dr Kim Bulwinkel, who has been a surgeon in Rockhampton for more than 20 years, says the task ahead for Central Queensland's Health and Hospital Board is huge.

aThe board is a group of well-meaning, good people. But the job is going to be a big one.

aThere are something like 92 pages of rules regarding how they are to operate and it's going to take them ages to understand the patch they are working in.

aIt could take them 18 months to two years before we see them having any really positive results.a

He said the board's chairman was expected to be required for only two days a week, but the role had become more than a full-time job.
