St. Augustine's Larizzabeats Well-Known Judge

Four years after unseating incumbent John Tanner, State Attorney R.J. Larizza of St. Augustine fended off a well-known challenger Tuesday night to retain his position.

Led by a strong showing in his home county of St. Johns, Larizza secured a second term by defeating former Volusia County judge Stasia Warren in the 7th Judicial Circuit.

"I think people saw what I was doing and decided I was the best candidate," Larizza said.

Larizza was the overwhelming choice in St. Johns and Putnam counties, getting support of about 70 percent in each county. He edged Warren in Flagler County with about 56 percent of the vote.

In Warren's home county of Volusia, she garnered more support than the incumbent, but it wasn't a large enough margin (54-46) to make up the difference for the other counties.

Warren enjoyed great name recognition in Volusia County, the most populous county in the 7th Circuit, which also includes St. Johns, Flagler and Putnam counties. …
