LAND Rover's next Freelander is preparing to undertake a journey of discovery, with overtones of the hugely successful Evoque.

The refresh is intended to keep the Freelander abreast of its rivals in what has become one of the most fiercely contested sectors of the car market. As if to indicate where an increasingly important chunk of Land Rover's business now lies, the latest Freelander is unveiled at the Moscow motorshow this week.

Among the myriad of improvements are the use of LED headlights from the Discovery and possibly a two-litre turbocharged petrol engine from the Evoque in some markets.

There are new versions of the vehicle featuring a different range of colours, exterior design features and upgraded equipment levels.

Among the many changes inside is a new centre console with a new 7in colour touch-screen and enhanced audio systems from Meridian and optional satellite navigation. Exterior design details have been revamped to incorporate more contemporary lights front and rear using the latest LED technology and a new signature graphic in the front running lights.

The XS version also gains new 17in alloy wheels and an enhanced bodystyling pack.

A new Dynamic model is added, which comes in three new interior colours of Ebony, Ivory or Pimento with matching stitching and co-ordinated door casings. Cabin space and safety are improved with the introduction of the intelligent electric parking brake. The system is so intelligent it even takes into account whether the brakes are hot or cold. …
