Support Is Ice for Man Who Won't Pay His Fine; Petition to Help out Alan

SCORES of people have signed a petition in support of an ice cream man who was given a parking ticket.

Alan Philipson, 61, is refusing to hand over his lolly after being hit with a ticket, despite 37 years of parking in the same place in Hexham.

But as well as receiving the massive support of the people, Mr Philipson has also been landed with a new demand from the county parking office, which is refusing to step down.

He said: "I'm still refusing to pay - and I believe I've got a good case."

Mr Philipson, owner of Hexhamshire Ice Cream, has parked his popular van outside Sele First School in Hexham since 1975 without ever getting a ticket.

But the council has now extended the time restrictions to 8am to 5pm, and caught Mr Philipson.

Northumberland County Council took over parking control from the police on April 17 and strict civil enforcement measures have raised a storm across Hexham by blitzing motorists who park on yellow lines. …
