Hundreds Farewell a Life-Changing Gardener

COLIN Campbell was remembered yesterday as a man who changed the lives of many, and did it with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face.

Hundreds turned out to farewell the Maleny gardening guru at a moving service at the Gregson and Weight chapel at Nambour yesterday.

The much-loved man died of cancer at the age of 78 last week.

Friends and family paid tribute through stories, poems and song, remembering him as a witty and infectious character who wore a hat with a hole and had the ability to captivate listeners both young and old.

One friend, Marty Doyle, spoke of how Col wanted to change the world, but felt he had failed.

aThe thing is, Col changed the lives of more people than he would ever know,a Mr Doyle said.

aWhen people came to him with cuttings of a dying and injured plant and asked him for advice, he always knew what to do a he changed their world.

aWhen drought struck Queensland and the politicians panicked at the water supply, Col said, a[approximately]It will rain again', and it did a he changed Queensland's world. …
