JENNY Dowell fell in love with the Lismore region when she moved to Goonellabah with her husband and two children in 1991. Her children attended local public schools.

Jenny loved the environment, the opportunities and the strong sense of community the area had to offer.

She realised how much the surrounding villages gave to the social, cultural and economic fabric of the region.

Until she retired in 2006 she was a teacher of deaf children and combined part-time work with volunteering, including NR Community Transport, the library and the Neighbourhood Centre.

She has been a councillor for eight years and mayor since 2008. Serving the best interests of the community as a whole has been one of her most satisfying achievements.

She has brought a fair and balanced approach to the work of Lismore Council and has worked co-operatively with other councillors to achieve a sustainable future for the area. …
