The Art of Manga; David Can Teach You How to Draw, Write and Letter These Classical Japanese Comics

IF YOU think comics are just for kids (and those people who dress up and go to conventions) think again.

The Japanese comic art form, manga, is a multi-billion dollar industry world wide and local manga artist David Youngberry will share his knowledge on the subject at a workshop at Lismore Library on Thursday.

In Japan, people of all ages read manga which covers a range of genres: action-adventure, romance, sports, historical drama, comedy, science fiction, fantasy and even erotica.

David says attendees in his workshop will learn more than just drawing techniques at his workshop. aManga artists are really graphic novelists,a David says. aUnlike the traditional novelist/illustrator relationship where there are two people creating one piece, in manga the same person does the art, the lettering and does the story.

aThey usually don't work as a team, as tends to happen with the superhero comics.
