YOUNG football prodigy Tom Evans was the star as the Bundaberg Spirit held the Brisbane Strikers to a 1-all draw in the Queensland Soccer League.

Evans was one of five juniors to suit up and with the oldest player for the Spirit being 22, the resolve of the Bundaberg boys was tested.

Club captain Brett Kitching was missing and the hard-working Shane Youngberry and Jack Hambrecht were also absent but the five 16-year-olds who played did not let the club down.

Spirit assistant coach Peter Martin was again happy with the contribution of his younger players and he also mentioned some senior members of the squad for their effort.

aTom Evans was really good again. He is getting better and better all the time,a he said. aIt was good to have Corey Haack back in defence and he organised things so well down there. I have to mention Brendan Davis and Elliott Causer, who were also marvellous.a

Martin said after last week's thrashing, he did not know what was going to happen in the game but he was very encouraged by the performance. …
