Moody a Popular Guest; Doomben BTC Cup on Planned Black Caviar Program

Article excerpt

RACING Queensland Limited (RQL) held the 2012 Thoroughbred Racing Awards night on Saturday to recognise leading industry participants.

A special guest at the evening was Peter Moody Co trainer of the internationally famous race mare Black Caviar.

Moody had made the dash from Flemington on Saturday where another of his stable stars Manighar had finished a close second in the Makybe Diva Stakes behind the Caulfield Cup winner of last season Co Southern Speed.

Most of the interview with Moody on Saturday night centred around the champion mare Black Caviar.

Moody explained the difficult time he had in England at Royal Ascot.

Despite keeping her undefeated record alive at her 22nd start, Black Caviar was nowhere near her best for the run.

Moody explained that he seriously considered scratching the great mare on the eve of the race.

It is still unclear whether Black Caviar will race again.

However, Moody suggested a possible program in the autumn of 2013, taking in the three eastern states of Australia, including the Group 1 Doomben BTC Cup Co the race she won in 2011.

Moody credited his success to a couple of factors.

Firstly, his approach of wishing to learn as much as possible from the top trainers in the business in the early years helped to form his approach to training thoroughbreds.

Secondly, Moody has worked extremely hard over many years to move to the top of his trade.

Another factor that Moody did not talk about is his ability to engage with people, whether prospective owners, media, the fellow on the street, or the Queen of England.

Moody always has time for people. …
