Mullum's Wests Tigers Connection Not Half Bad

FORMER Mullumbimby Giants rugby league players Jacob Miller and Matt Mulcahy have played major roles in the 2012 National Youth Competition finals.

Mulcahy scored two tries at five-eighth while Miller led the side at halfback to a 24-20 win over minor premiers the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in the first NYC qualifying final.

Miller, who last played for Mullumbimby in the 2007 premiership-winning Under-18 team, was instrumental in getting Mulcahy to the club this season.

Miller has played five NRL games and has been earmarked as a future first-grade halfback.

Mulcahy can stake a claim for the position too; despite playing five-eighth, he is a natural halfback.

His first try against the Bulldogs came from sheer pace after taking on the line then the second came when he threw a dummy and crossed out wide.

Mulcahy played for the Giants last season and caught the eye of talent scouts when he helped lead the Mullumbimby High School team to the semi-finals of the Statewide University Shield. …
