THEY are the unsung heroes of Mackay rugby league, without whom the sport would not prosper.

Ten unsung heroes of the game were recognised at the league's annual awards night for their efforts over the season.

MDRL chairman Stephen Hawkins said all had made outstanding contributions to their clubs and the sport in general.

Alf Miller (Mackay Brothers): A former player and now a volunteer worker in many aspects of the club including the grounds and canteen. Has been involved for many years and is always doing something to help.

Paul and Denise Maxwell (Whitsunday): Coaching, managing, marking lines, helping with the canteen a a dependable couple to help out the club.

Lisa Schulte (Sarina): Gives up a lot of her time as a volunteer for both the senior and junior clubs, at training and at the grounds.

Amanda Bishop (Norths): The ago-to girla at Norths, where she helps with just about everything, as well as being a mum and running her own business. …
