SOLE POWER should be very tough to beat as he drops to Listed level in the Scarbrough Stakes (3.05), the feature event on the opening day of Doncaster's St Leger meeting.

The five-year-old takes a dip in class after plying his trade in a succession of the top-tier events so far this term.

A shock winner of the Nunthorpe in 2010, Sole Power has failed to hit those kind of heights since and trainer Edward Lynam is obviously keen to give him a confidencebooster ahead of the big-race programme in the autumn.

The Invincible Spirit colt has plenty of entries to his name, including the Middle Park and Dewhurst Stakes, and if he is to justify that kind of target, he should be winning here.

The Kat Communications Knowledge About Telecoms Conditions Stakes (4.10) is a fascinating heat but preference is for the Mahmood Al Zaroonitrained Swedish Sailor. …
