CYCLING: Dylan Newbery no longer regrets his decision to switch from triathlon to cycling.

Three state gold medals in 12 months have ensured that.

Two years after ditching the togs and runners to put all his focus into forging a cycling career, the Maryborough 18-year-old successfully defended his junior 19 men's individual time trial crown at the Queensland Cycling Championships on the Gold Coast.

He finished the race in a time of 24min 25.14sec.

The Fraser Coast Cycling Club member also produced the goods at the Queensland Elite Road Championships in Goombungee.

He broke away from the pack early in the 119km road race and fought off a late challenge from Rockhampton's Dylan Nankivell to take the win.

Newbery then capped off his stellar state championship campaign with a bronze medal in the criterium event to go with his two gold medals.
