Magpies Break Drought; Willowburn Beats Hawks

THEY might have endured the heartache of losing the grand final the past two years but now Willowburn has its trophy.

Willowburn claimed its first Football Toowoomba Premier Men's premiership in 12 years yesterday after the Magpies recorded a 3-1 win over South Toowoomba Hawks.

The result ended the run of Hawks, who had won the past three premierships with the last two of those coming thanks to grand final wins over Willowburn.

Man of the match Jack Barrowclift, who returns home to England tomorrow after a stint in Toowoomba, got the Magpies out to a lead thanks to his quality first half strike from outside the box.

It was 1-0 at half-time and Willowburn soon executed its plan to unleash Eduardo Mba on a tiring defence.

He was brought on 10 minutes into the second and the move proved a master stroke as he doubled the lead with a second goal.

Kevin Doyle then found the net to make it 3-0 which broke the back of the defending premiers. …
