DISGUSTED former neighbours of a Satanist sex offender who abused young boys say they are relieved he is back in jail.

Residents on quiet Sunnybrow Avenue, in Billingham, battled to have Gary Dover-Afflick, 47, removed from their neighbourhood.

Dover-Afflick - whose vanishing act once triggered a nationwide manhunt - settled there after completing a jail sentence for blackmail, supplying drugs and indecent assault on vulnerable boys aged between nine and 14.

But today, the sadistic, Fagin-style sex offender - who gave rootless youngsters shelter in squats and flats, before giving them drugs, lecturing them about Satanism and keeping them in line with beatings and sexual assaults - is awaiting a lengthy jail sentence.

His latest court appearance, which revealed he was now of no fixed address, came after he pleaded guilty to flouting a court order meant to protect the public.

Grandmother and hospital chef Margaret Adam, 60, was involved in public meetings with the police in order to try to haveDover-Afflick removed from Sunnybrow Avenue late last year and earlier this year.

His presence prompted Facebook and leafleting campaigns to have him removed.

Mrs Adam said: "We were just disgusted by it, but the police just couldn't do anything. It was just disgusting. The children actually stopped playing in the street. It was terrible.

"We went to meetings at the library with the police and we got nowhere, absolutely nowhere. We were trying to get him out."

Mrs Adam, whose youngest grandchild is five, added she was relieved Dover-Afflick was back behind bars, as earlier this year residents were concerned children had stopped visiting a local sweet shop over their parents' fears they would come face to face with him. …
