Dual-Use Car Park Will Be Free for Ratepayers

THE Leisure Court car park may look a little worse for wear, however, it is set to receive a facelift.

Mackay Regional Council has called on public expressions of interest for a car park licence for the facility adjacent to Virgin Australia Stadium.

Mayor Deirdre Comerford said offers were received and yesterday councillors agreed on a tender for the work, which totals $736,608.

The best part is none will come from ratepayers' pockets.

The council is in the process of striking a deal with a construction company, which Cr Comerford is, for the moment, remaining tight lipped about.

C[pounds sterling]We have to accept the tender to build the car park ... then we go back to the person who is prepared to enter into a licence for that car park and sign them up,C[yen] Cr Comerford said.

If all goes well, that company will pay for the car park's reconstruction, which includes sealing and line marking. …
