A DETECTIVE told a court how four police cars raced to stop a minicab carrying Mark Duggan moments before the suspected gunman was shot dead by firearms officers.

The detective then saw a pistol wrapped in cloth lying near Duggan's body.

Duggan was killed in a "hard stop" in Ferry Lane, Tottenham last August, sparking riots that spread across England. Duggan, who was under police surveillance, had collected a handgun from an associate barely 15 minutes earlier, the jury had heard.

Speaking from behind a screen at Snaresbrook crown court, the officer known as ZZ75, said he had been following Duggan, who was in a Toyota people carrier, from Leyton to Tottenham when a call came in to tell him that armed police were getting involved.

"I was aware of firearms officers overtaking us," he said. "Firearms officers stopped the cab. As I can recall one vehicle pulled in front of it, one pulled up beside, one pulled up behind it, then there was a fourth vehicle that pulled up behind that. …
