BALLINA'S Marine Rescue unit was yesterday called in to tow a car rather than a boat.

The owner of the Holden twin-cab 4WD, who didn't want to be identified, said he just awasn't thinkinga when he parked the car and left the handbrake off, with the vehicle then rolling into the waterway at about noon.

He had travelled to Ballina from Coffs Harbour that morning to visit a relative who had received some bad medical news.

And the car's owner was visibly upset about that news a and had little sleep the night before a which he said led to the mistake.

aI tried to stop it (the car), and got my foot run over and nearly got my jaw knocked off,a the vehicle's owner said.
