FOR a fisherman, this has to be one of the best product endorsements you can ask for.

Danny Brooks snagged himself a massive 1.23 metre barramundi in the Maroochy River on Monday using one of his self-designed lures that have just hit the local market.

The 28-year-old Maroochydore man is looking to make a living from Just Jiggin Lures and says his big catch this week is proof he's on to something.

He reeled in the monster barra after it latched on to his custom-made 12.5cm Swimbait Coffee Hit lure.

aI was ecstatic from the catch. I've still got a smile from it,a he said.

aBiggest fish I caught out of a dam is 1.1m, so catching a wild barra like this is just incredible.

aIt's the fish of a lifetime.a

The catch capped off a fantastic afternoon on the Maroochy River for Danny.

His first two fish for the day came within 30 minutes and measured 25cm and 94cm respectively.

About an hour later he found himself reeling in the big one.

aIt took about 20 minutes,a he said.

Swan Boat Hire manager Matthew Planck yesterday confirmed that Danny's barramundi was a local record.

aI haven't seen any bigger than that in the Maroochy River,a he said.

aFrom what we've weighed in over the past 16 years this would definitely be a record with us for barramundi.a

Mr Planck said the previous record was 1.2m caught about eight years ago near the top of the river.

Danny said he was fishing before he learnt how to walk, and turning that passion into a business was just a natural progression.

aFishing is in my blood. My pop taught me how to fish but before he passed he told me I would go on to great things,a he said.

Just Jigging Lures is the product of his love for the sport.

He said his lures were designed for fishing enthusiasts who used soft plastic lures in freshwater, estuaries or offshore fishing.

He has a variety of styles and range of colours.

They are already on sale through his website and stores in Maroochydore and Noosa with plans to expand up to Tin Can Bay. …
