Players' Chance to Progress; Exciting Summer Loomsin Range of Competition

Article excerpt

IN what promises to be a season full of opportunities for players, local cricketers are gearing up for the start of senior grade fixtures next Saturday.

For those wishing to further their cricket experience, pathways lead from Ipswich to either Brisbane grade cricket or Queensland Country selection.

The creation of the Ipswich Logan Premier League (ILPL) is seen to be the link between local club fixtures and the higher levels of competition.

The Premier League will feature each of the previous Ipswich first grade teams as well as a team from Alberton in this first season.

The teams will play one and two-day fixture games, and also play in a Monday night T20 competition, based mainly at Limestone Park.

The emergence of the Ipswich Logan Hornets has new players registering with Ipswich clubs and some players change clubs.

A condition of selection for Ipswich Logan is that the player must be registered with a club and seek dual registration with the Hornets. This allows a player to move between Brisbane grade cricket and the local competition, when the opportunity arises.

The T20 Monday night matches may attract Brisbane grade cricketers playing for their club.

Ipswich cricket will also provide fixtures for first, second and third grade local teams.

This season, Marburg and Mt Crosby have merged to form a new club to be known as the Thunder.

The list of teams for the new season:

Premier League: Alberton, Brothers, Centrals, Laidley, Northsiders, Swifts, and Taipans.

1st grade: Brothers, Centrals, Laidley, Northsiders, Swifts, Thunder, and Taipans.

2nd grade: Centrals, Northsiders, Swifts, Thunder, and Taipans.

3rd grade: Brothers, Northsiders, Swifts Blue, Swifts Red, Thunder, and Taipans.

JUNIOR cricket fixtures will start on Saturday, October 13, in under 10, U12, U14 and U16.

At a recent Junior Cricket Forum, it was decided that all fixtures in these age groups will be played on Saturday mornings.

Mid-week In2Cricket programs will be run again this year by most clubs with U8/9 years games planned for Friday nights.

In a pre-season opener, Ipswich Cricket hosts Toowoomba tomorrow in a T20 Carnival day at the Ivor Marsden Cricket fields at Amberley. …
